    Watching a Disaster Unfold
MINOR SPOILER ALERT: This series is really good, but it’s also really hard to listen to. Even though we are not out of the pandemic, you know how this part ends. But listening to the different groups start with hope and confidence, doing their best managing conflicting concerns, and then hear as it slowly falls apart is depressing. My daughter was a high school senior at the same time, and this series put me back in a place I didn’t want to be. Minor Spoiler: this is just a slice of time story; there’s no summary of how everyone managed. The end was just, “ It could have been worse.”

Looking forward to seeing Season 2
It is back to school season again, and new virus appears. Want to know what is happening before school reopen and what teacher, students and parents expect now.

    Valuable COVID story
This was an incredibly strong and particularly heart breaking part of The Daily. Especially because it connected to me so much as I’m the same demographic as this lady. But also it exposed the vulnerabilities of some of the poorest parts of America.

    Love hearing on the ground
The real truth and interviews was so hard to hear but needed. I loved hearing the true life stories of what is going on in the real world. New York Times did a great job!!!!

    Well Done
So many people focused on healthcare works and their struggles (and rightfully so) but the trickle down effects in our schools were not as wildly reported. I appreciate how you showed the other side of Odessa as well. I would love a follow up next year to see how teachers are now coping with basically having to teach what was missed, and how they are getting out of the mental fog of quarantine.

Loved the podcast and the perspective of students and teachers
Loved this insight into a high school and the tragedy of this last year. I appreciated the teachers devotion to their students. The music was a great backdrop. Ignore the comments about the host’s voice. It’s her voice, and she engaged empathetically with the kids and teachers. Those comments felt sexist to me.

    Excellent
I am a former Permian Panther pep squad member. You captured the emotional and physical struggles of West Texas. Thank you for drawing attention to this area.

    Did time in Odessa
I joke that I “did time” in Odessa as a teenager, though as a Permian Panther. What a delightful look beneath the political and oil patch politics of the area to experience the lives of ordinary folks doing their best in extraordinary times.

    follow up please!!
This is a fantastic and extremely important podcast that helps to shed light on the way in which the Covid pandemic affected an entire generation of teenagers; future adults and parents. Now that the school year is finished I would love to listen to, or even read, about how things turned out for the students, teachers, nurses and counselors. Thank you for all this amazing work!

    Time capsule
Loved hearing from high schoolers firsthand about their experiences going to school in the midst of the pandemic. A time capsule that can serve as a crazy relic of this time. Teenagers are complex and wonderful—I appreciated that they were at the center of this story.

Need to follow these students after COVID-19
It would be important to do a follow up podcast about a year after this class graduates and see what has happened to them after such an interruption to their lives. I want to learn more long term effects of this life event. Please!

    Snore
Forced vocal fry-snore. The forced pauses make it irritatingly impossible to listen to. Good ideas poorly executed. Interesting topic made boring.

    Good Reporting/ PAINFUL narration
While Annie Brown does some decent reporting it must be said that if she wants to continue in an audio format she needs to get rid of her extremely distracting vocal fry. It grates on the listener and begs to be addressed. If this were more than 4 episodes I would have had to bail from the nails on a chalkboard fry alone. Also for those of us who were touched by the struggle the subjects were dealing with, an update on their well-being would be welcome.

    Tough
I actually thought it was a great podcast. Extremely sad, but what WASNT sad during the pandemic? I felt horrible for the kids - especially the seniors. I was an athlete in high school but had the chance to play in the marching band the summer I graduated - they were invited to Washington DC to March at the Independence Day parade. I was a drummer and they needed another drummer on the drum line and I was fortunate enough to fill the slot. I say all that to say that I WISH I was a band geek in High School. I saw during that short trip just what I’d missed out on for 4 years. Odessas band sounds awesome. I pray those kids, the families and faculty are able to get back to normal - as much as possible. Great listen for me.

Is the host about to cry?????
Why does the host sound like she’s about to cry? How are we suppose to listen to this????😂😂 WHAT A WEIRD PODCAST

You had me at Schitts Creek
Excellent podcast. I knew I was hooked when the teacher used Schitts Creek as an example of everyone’s frustration and I laughed out loud… but know my heart is with all of you ☠️

    Worth the wait
I waited a long time for these episodes but I’m glad to finally hear the end. As a teacher in a Texas public school, I wish we could have heard more about the mental health of educators during this time. It’s been a long road.

    Ended too early
As a teacher who has worked face to face since august, I felt that this missed a lot of the struggles and secrecy going Olin in schools. I was really excited after episide1, but felt it fizzled out a bit and was left very unresolved. I think more episodes would have been helpful to get a clearer picture.

If vocal fry irritates you, pass
I tried. It might be a great Podcast, but I couldn’t get past the vocal fry of the narrator.
  • Kittybo57
    great story but fried
It’s intriguing and I really want to finish but the narrator’s vocal fry and unnatural/hesitant practiced pauses might drive me insane before I can finish.

    Love it but..
    Where are the other episodes?

    Good story but...is there more?
Just like another fan, I loved the band experience in high school. In fact I went to school in Odessa and could name March Grandioso in two notes! Band is a team 'sport' and so many life lessons are learned by participating. But I am really disappointed the podcast has gone silent. Can you just do a 1 minute update to let us know what's happened? All of Odessa + is waiting to listen. Thanks.

Like it but where are the rest?
Maybe they are coming but at this pace the topic might not be relevant.

    Great storytelling
I’m hooked, but after two Fridays it seems to be on pause. Where are the last two episodes?

    Vocal Fry
The story is important and interesting but the vocal fry of the narrator is so intense that I find it almost unbearable to listen to.
  • clvlndr
    The vocal fry is epic...
...but the storytelling is great so it’s ok!
  • Chupidoop
    Glad I waited to review
The first episode promised a podcast that was telling of our collective experiences this past year, but the story is slow and plodding. The narrator has a frustrating halt to her voice which does not help. I know the stories we want to hear are there, but sadly this podcast won’t get to them.

    Marching band is important
This podcast was so interesting and showed the challenges all schools have faced. I blossomed in marching band and will be a band geek for life so glad to see it being recognized for it’s important role in many lives!! The pandemic took so much and I was so sad for those that had to miss years of band and clubs that make high school better. The balance between safety and learning is a hard balance but I was so glad to hear marching band get its recognition.

    Narrator with vocal fry
Very interesting and relevant podcast, but the narrator’s vocal fry is off putting and makes it difficult to listen. I hope it will improve in future episodes.

    Interesting
So, far so good. Appears balanced in approach. I’m interested in seeing where it goes.

Different viewpoints for a complex issue
In the first episode this documentary interviews a school administrator, a teacher, and a student who is learning remotely in a school system that is providing in-person learning during the pandemic. The various viewpoints on a problem faced across the nation, the struggling of fostering learning during a pandemic, is thoughtful and pertinent.

    Great podcast
In the best tradition of podcasting, this show really takes you into these kids and teachers lives as they try to navigate this crazy system.
